i rewatched day 1 of the idolish7 movie...

(these are my thoughts from both the first and second time i watched day 1)

(my rambles of day 2 here)

my first time watching something in 4dx. it rained, it snowed, the chairs moved like a roller coaster, there were gusts of wind, smoke, and bubbles falling in front of the screen. it smelled nice on occasions, too

the first scene with a tree sprouting and growing with flashes of the elements/seasons were so endearing by the third time i watched it

started off with monster generation<3 i tried to watch where they took away their umbrellas, ngl

iori's little ponytail!💙 it reminded me of banri-san's🥰

i feel like toma talked a lot overall, whereas i thought the other groups talked more equally 🤷

gaku's "are you guys ready?" from the left, ryu's "yeah, we'll go ahead" from the right, tenn's "who do you think we are?" from the front center, "we are TRIGGER" from all around the theater speakers = auditory bliss 🙏🙏🙏

i thought the scents in 4dx were going to be like musky men's cologne/perfume for the idols, but it was more of a sweet floral scent like an air freshener

trigger's costume looked so warm, i couldn't imagine how hot and sweaty they were dancing on stage🥺

tenn's such a sweetheart for his fans, he's so nice in their talking scene 💞

THEIR EXPRESSION CHANGE FROM HAPPY SMILES TO A PAINED EXPRESSION THE MOMENT LAST DIMENSION STARTED WAS IMPECCABLE

i thought it was elsa when their back dancer came out wearing a flowy blue dress against the icy backdrop

the cheering sound effect at the start of re-raise was really loud, i think louder than the other songs

no revale concert is complete without that long red couch with the gold frame 🩷💚

i forget how cute momo's personality usually is when i'm listening to their songs on spotify, but he was really playful in their talk. AND I SWEAR IT'S LIKE HE CHANGES INTO A DIFFERENT PERSON WHEN HE SINGS HE'S SO COOL

AND THE SUDDEN CLOSE UP OF MOMO'S EAR WHEN YUKI WHISPERS-- so bad for my heart 🫀🛑

it might have been his costume or because yuki's legs are so skinny, but momo's thicc thighs!!!

i loved how their choreography was loose in some parts so everyone had some freedom and creativity! (personally, i saw this mainly in stronger&stronger and at the beginning of pieces of the world)

the thread graphics in the background in stronger&stronger changed colors depending on who was singing and the line distributions☺️

i love how in journey, momo pretends there's an imaginary puddle like the lyrics, but yuki just walks right though lol😂😂

also, yuki's so beautiful and his voice/singing is so good (like, gaku is handsome and sexy, but no one does beautiful like yuki<3)

momo's kind expressions🥰🥰🥰

gaku being paler than the white tuffs of fur on his coat💀💀

ryu's close up and him saying "second verse" is heart stopping part 2 🫀🛑🫀🛑

trigger is so... perfection, i could watch them perform an endless amount of times

i love how tenn stayed behind in his black outfit at the end of beautiful prayer and riku came out in his new white outfit change for incomplete ruler!

their harmonizing was so good😭😭😭

riku glancing at tenn from the dark while the spotlight was on tenn❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

their matching rings on their pinkies is everything 🩷❤️

the way tenn walks off stage immediately after the song is over, and then the rest of idolish7 appear from behind in their new white outfits to sing tomorrow evidence as if to comfort riku being left alone...

okay, so i love their white outfits, but most of them are so pale they looked a little washed out in all white... (like i couldn't tell if it was sogo or tenn it was that bad😬)

tamaki has so much energy omg he was still jumping about when walking backstage after the encore

breaking the wall a little bit...

i think they might have kept the same costume design from their new songs and just changed the color to white for pieces of the world, but if they were to make two versions of the same outfit for irl concerts (in color and in white), that's a lot of work💀 (unless they were to bleach the outfit or something i guess)

the flashes in the 4dx theater really made it feel like the theater was part of the concert venue lol

i don't mean this is an ageism way, but singing and dancing those songs in real concerts might be a little tiring for some of our dear voice actors😭

in the credits after the movie, i was looking to see if there was maybe a chance they added banri's name somewhere, but THERE WAS SOMETHING BETTER

Cameraman: Good morning, everyone.

Takanashi Tsumugi: Good morning.

Anesagi Kaoru: Good morning. Oh, you’re holding a camera. That means you’re from “Backyard Magic”, aren’t you?

Cameraman: I have some questions for both of you, so…

Anesagi Kaoru: You should have told us about that earlier! My makeup is terrible right now, so don’t film my face!

Cameraman: How do you think they managed to preserve that atmosphere?

Cameraman: Of course, everyone’s friendly personalities are part of that, but…

Cameraman: Usually, you would expect the group eventually gets used to it, but they are giving their all every single time to create a fresh live experience for everyone. What is the reason for that?

Takanashi Tsumugi: …

Takanashi Tsumugi: I think there are a lot of factors to it, but I think the main reason is Riku-san. 

Cameraman: You mean Nanase Riku, your center? 

Takanashi Tsumugi: Yes, him.

Takanashi Tsumugi: Riku-san seems like he was born to be a center, but surprisingly he also easily gets nervous. 

Takanashi Tsumugi: All the members are very close, so when Riku-san gets nervous, everyone’s attention shifts to him. 

Takanashi Tsumugi: They’re willing to back him up anytime and want to put his mind at ease… These kind feelings they hold just naturally gather…

Takanashi Tsumugi: And then, when the curtain opens and it’s time for the actual show, Riku-san is also really capable and goes ahead with a big “Wow!”.

Takanashi Tsumugi: Feeling the atmosphere when Riku-san is having fun makes the others really relieved, so they get pumped up, like “Let’s go, we’ll make some noise tonight!”.

Cameraman: So, every time…That tension and relief, it’s like a bow that has been drawn all the way getting released? 

Takanashi Tsumugi: Yes… Maybe you could describe it like that.

Takanashi Tsumugi: “Is this fine?”, “Does he need back-up?”, “If he does, I’ll do anything for that”... That kind of feeling between the members…

Takanashi Tsumugi: When they hear Riku-san’s singing, it just completely transforms in a second. 

Cameraman: “Our center is amazing!”, “Let’s follow him and get this show going!”; to that kind of feeling?

Takanashi Tsumugi: Yes, I think at that point they’re already not really thinking about helping Riku-san out there. Rather than that, you get the feeling that they are having so much fun. 

Takanashi Tsumugi: Once the live starts, Riku-san’s view broadens and he passes that feeling to everyone around him. 

Takanashi Tsumugi: They begin to synergize, and… Because these seven are having so much fun on stage, the audience also enjoys themselves from the bottom of their heart.

Takanashi Tsumugi: And that’s why I think those seven together are the strongest! 

Cameraman: Thank you very much! Hearing an opinion from a manager’s viewpoint was very interesting.

Cameraman: How about TRIGGER? TRIGGER’s lives kind of give the exact opposite impression of IDOLiSH7’s performances, right.

Cameraman: Compared to IDOLiSH7, where the audience feels like the idols are their friends, with TRIGGER they get more of a mysterious feeling.  Like they’re waiting for a god to descend…

Takanashi Tsumugi: I agree!

Cameraman: The atmosphere at the venue is truly impressive… All of these people who are waiting for them, they know just how amazing TRIGGER is. 

Takanashi Tsumugi: Yes, that! The atmosphere isn’t strained, but there is that looming excitement that they’ll appear soon!

Cameraman: It’s truly amazing. It feels like if you poked that atmosphere with a needle, it might just burst like a balloon. But it’s never in a bad way. 

Takanashi Tsumugi: Right! The fans aren’t on edge because they’re anxious. It’s because they believe in TRIGGER.　

Takanashi Tsumugi: Their nervousness is because they know they’re about to witness something great and don’t know if they’re ready.

Anesagi Kaoru: Look at you talk suddenly.

Takanashi Tsumugi: I’m sorry, I just…

Anesagi Kaoru: It’s fine! I’m really happy! You make me want to go for drinks with you two right now. 

Cameraman: That’s an honor!

Cameraman: But compared to their debut, TRIGGER’s performances have less of an “exciting party” feel now.

Cameraman: That feeling isn’t completely gone now, but their image has gotten a lot more stoic now.

Cameraman: How do you see TRIGGER’s lives, Anesagi-san? 

Anesagi Kaoru: About the same as Takanashi-san, I’d say. These three are the stoic type, who take their work seriously and don’t cut corners. 

Cameraman: TRIGGER doesn’t talk all that much, so the audience needs the knowledge and imagination to fill the gaps, right? 

Cameraman: It’s not like they just miraculously appeared in this world and got together, looking all cool like they could ace anything… 

Cameraman: Even when they’re not saying anything, you can tell that they’re giving it their all on the inside. You see that they put all their skill into it.

Anesagi Kaoru: You see, they aren’t trying to burden the audience or make them take a guess at their skill at all.

Anesagi Kaoru: It feels like things just naturally lined up that way… People who start to like TRIGGER because of their outward appearance become interested in how they are on the inside, as well.

Anesagi Kaoru: They think about it and then, slowly, little by little, they put in more and more acts of wordless communication. 

Anesagi Kaoru: That alone is enough to open up their hearts and from there on TRIGGER also becomes the fan’s pride.

Anesagi Kaoru: And at the lives, these prides collide.

Cameraman: It’s like the classy kind of tension you feel in a tearoom, right? The servicing side doesn’t say a single thing, yet still delivers the highest class experience. 

Cameraman: And even though the side being serviced just watches, they have deep knowledge and understanding of everything, but don’t talk much.

Okazaki Rinto: Maybe you have heard about that already, but Momo-kun used to play soccer and was the captain of the team at his school's elite soccer team.

Utsugi Shirou: It is! But it’s not like they don’t know how to hold out until the end either.

Iori originally says “羽を伸ばしてきてください”  (stretch one’s wings), which is a polite metaphor to suggest someone relaxes and takes a break. I have no idea if it’s intentional, but I think if it is then it’s a pretty clever reference to Silver Sky (the Re:vale song named after Banri’s character color that has bird imagery in both its cover and lyrics). (that or im just insane)(sorry)

IDOLiSH7 Anime vs Game Comparisons

First Beat - Episode 1

Banri & Tsumugi’s first interaction

Takanashi Productions was in charge of a few other talents before: models, dancers, choir. But i7 is their first boy idol group.

Banri calls the i7 boys as a Japanese multi-course bento (Kaiseki Bento). Tsumugi is confused in both the anime and game, but we don’t get an explanation for why he calls them this in the anime.

It’s actually Banri’s temporary group name 🤣 He says the it’s a name filled with the agency’s hopes and dreams!

Basketball Game

There’s more dialogue in the game that shows us more of their personalities and dynamics. But we’ll learn that eventually~

Sogo, Riku, Nagi team is disorganized. Nagi does what he wants. Riku gets distracted by Nagi. Sogo tries to keep things under control.

Tamaki, Mitsuki, Iori team is super competitive. Tamaki and Mitsuki says, “I hate losing!”, while Iori says, “My life has no room for defeat”.

Unlike in the anime, we actually see parts that show that they’re unfamiliar with each other. Mitsuki and Iori were taken aback at Tamaki’s nicknames. Sogo got a bit weirded out by Nagi’s monologues. They don’t feel like they’ve known each other for a long time like Tsumugi observed (probably bc she was watching from farther away).

Auditions! We get to see Tsumugi’s reactions to this in the game.

Iori is good at singing and dancing. He makes it look effortless!

Yamato is great at expressing things both in singing and dancing. It’s interesting because he’s always repressing his feelings.

Mitsuki has great energy. He brings life to the room.

The anime moves these comments to Tsumugi’s report to Takanashi papa. I like this change because we’re not just watching Tsumugi listen and watch the boys as they perform one by one.

When telling the boys about the audition results:

I like the little detail when Tsumugi goes, “Iori-kun… Iori-san.” Iori can be quite intimidating when you first meet him. Although he has a very sharp tongue, he doesn’t come off as some high school brat; he speaks really formally and is really serious about the task on hand, so it’s hard to treat him like a younger person. He has an aura that commands respect.

Side Story I

This side story is from Riku’s POV. We start from Riku walking over to Takanashi Productions to sign the contract. He was calling his mom! He tells him mom about how he won’t be like “that person” (Tenn) who abandoned his family. He calls Tenn “that person” because he doesn’t want to call him “Tenn-nii” anymore, but his mom points out how he called Tenn “Tenn-nii” just yesterday 😂😂 And then he just fully returns to calling Tenn, “Tenn-nii”. He also promised his mom that he will buy her something amazing once he gets famous 🥺❤️

Riku explains that he wants be an idol because he got curious about the job that convinced Tenn to abandon his family (Gon, is that you?)

We see Riku’s first impressions of the members. His interactions show more of his carefree, no sensor, shameless self (ily Riku), which is quite different to the good boy who works hard that we see from Tsumugi’s POV in Part 1, Ch. 1.

Riku -> Nagi: “Wow, this person has a beautiful face unlike any I’ve ever seen! Is he Japanese? …Maybe a foreigner? He face looks as pretty as a sculpture… He seems like a cool and elegant person. He must be a calm person.” (🤭). Riku says Nagi looks 25. Nagi replies that he’s nineteen in English. Riku didn’t understand but just assumed Nagi is younger than him. Iori was speechless. Mitsuki explains that nineteen = 19. Later, Riku introduces Nagi and the Izumi brothers to Sogou and Tamaki. He says the Izumi’s brothers ages normally in Japanese but chooses to use English to say nineteen for Nagi 😂😂 (He’s adorable)

Riku -> Izumi brothers: “Looks like a bright younger brother and a somewhat cold older brother. They’re probably both younger than me?” After making this assumption, he immediately treats them like younger people. He calls Iori “Iori-kun” and Mitsuki “Mitsuki-kun”. Iori immediately criticizes him, but Riku pays him no mind.🙂‍↕️😂 Mitsuki explains that he’s the older brother and that he’s probably older than Riku as he is 21. Riku…. Asks if that’s his shoe size. 😭😭😭😭😭 Mitsuki shouts, “That’s my age! And I’m not that small!!”. Riku is not bothered at all. He just goes “Oh ok!” Then, he POINTS HIS FINGER at Iori and asks, “Then what about this kid over here?” 😂 Iori says, “Don’t point your fingers at other people.” (Is this why they chose NOT to be in Riku’s team? 😂)

Riku -> Sogou: He looks like a nice person!

Riku -> Tamaki: This guy looks like a punk (punk with a cat ears hoodie? Rikuuuu 😂😂)

Side Story 2:

Most of this side story actually makes it into the anime! It’s the part with Sogou and Yamato buying drinks and the rest of the five’s reaction to the auditions.

We get to see a bit more in the game because we get to hear the boys’ thoughts. One of my favorite parts is seeing Iori’s more dangerous side 😌

He calls Takanashi papa a “smug, opportunistic old man”

And threatens to file a complaint, drag Takanashi Production’s reputation down, and drive Takanashi papa to bankruptcy if Mitsuki doesn’t make it in.

Volume 1 Chapter 1

The archiving system of this game's story can be confusing, but you end up rolling with it at some point.

Anyhow, we begin this first actual storyline of the game by Sensei accepting a plea for help from a smaller school.

Turns out Abydos Academy used to be the largest school before desertification ate most of the land belonging to it, resulting in attempts at disaster relief eating through funds. This got the school in deep shit with loan sharks...

And this is basically why that school only has 5 students remaining.

What the fuck.

But Sensei is undaunted and goes there on his own!

Except the district is still large as hell, so they end up lost and dehydrated after three hours. Considering it's a desert district...

But yeah, Sensei then gets found by a student who winds up taking them piggyback to Abydos Academy, where we meet the Foreclosure Task Force, aka the five last students of Abydos.

Now, I will have the cliffnotes less detailed here BC certain details will be mentioned as I go along this story.

These are the last members of their school, and they are up shits creek without a paddle. Under siege by delinquents and over 900 Million Yen (about 9 Million Dollars) in debt and with almost no way to earn money, plus the interest rate, things are dire.

At least the siege can be solved by Sensei ordering some ammo for all and coordinating a counteroffensive. The debt, not so much.

Turns out Abydos went ignored by the GSC for some reason (politics, probs) and Sensei is their first ray of hope in a while.

Sorta. We later learn that Nonomi is so motherfucking rich that she has a credit card with no known upper limit and could wipe the debt out in a swipe. However, principle of the thing, so no do that.

Bit dumb, considering, but they get by... barely.

So their next course of action to get some money is to find out about jobs in their area. Serika winds up falling for a pyramid scheme, so we all band together to fuck these fraudsters up.

Next suggestion: rob a bank!

Shiroko seems to be a big fan of Payday, enough so that her hobby is planning bank heists. Of course they need masks and a plan and new identities of this.

The name "Masked Swimsuit Gang" ends up sticking. (They don't even wear swimsuits here)

However, before then, a new threat arises! The loan sharks are a subsidy of Kaiser Corporation, the biggest corp in Kivotos and all-around assholes. The head twat hires a certain agency to ensure Abydos' demise and securing what remains of the land the last Prez sold off for loans.

It's unfortunate that PS69- sorry, 68 gets outta dodge because asshole McGee is assmad they failed to put the screws on Abydos.

Sensei offers help, but has to be kindly refused. Don't worry, this lovable moron and her unstoppable crew of one punk chick, one imp and one High-powered depression-run bomb builder of a school girl terrorist will be back

And, yes, that one is Haruka, who winds up blowing up the Ramen store because she thought it would help Aru.

Part 3 of Universe 1 of my Swap AU. Please read that post before progressing!

Ryunosuke Izumi - The oldest of the Izumi brothers and the gentle heart behind the duo. While Touma had the fiery passion and drive to go out there and conquer the world, Ryuu was more than content to smooth over any bumps and bruises left behind by Touma's more abrasive and rude-seeming words and personality. He knew more than anyone what a good person his little brother was, and wanted to make sure that he could have everything in the world, but he was also sensible enough to consider what losing not one but both of their sons to a different profession could do to his parent's business. More of a realist, Ryuu was a bit skeptical to accept the Takanashi call-backs from how much lower the starting salary was than he'd expected. It was an indie group starting from a small and relatively new production agency, of course, but could he and Touma really afford to take that risk? He only agreed once he met everyone else and was infected by their friendly energy and personalities, though in the early days, he spent whatever time wasn't at practice helping his parents out. Everything will be okay one way or another with him on guard.
